Kalpesh said, “The post graduate diploma in management was relatively unaffected by the absence of a formal degree, both in terms of recruitment of students and as suitable placements in the job market.”

“For old IIMs (the bill) will restrict their global target pool of faculty. As the decision of ministry of human resource development will be final and binding…they can never be sure how far they can innovate and expand.”

Kalpesh Banker on online tutoring:

“It will be different from commercial tutoring… but Indians always seek quality content in math and science,” said Kalpesh Banker, managing partner of EduShine Advisory, an education consultancy.

That may well mean a disruption in India’s tutorial space.

“Branding and acceptance won’t be an issue (for Khan Academy) but (the availability of) high-speed Internet could,” Banker added.

Edushine Research Report in Live Mint: 6.67% Indian Higher Education Institutions Headed by Women

What is it? The share of higher educational institutions in India that have women in leadership positions, according to a report.

Why is it important? It shows that India has a long way to go in terms of gender parity. This percentage number compares poorly with the equivalent numbers for Australia (21%), the US (18%) and the UK (17%).

Tell me more: Across all the seven All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, 31 National Institutes of Technology and six Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research, only the NIT-Puducherry has a woman director. The report, prepared by management consulting firm EduShine Advisory Group, looked at all higher educational institutions, including central, state, deemed varsities and institutes of national importance.
